The Mercedes Premium Trim Explained

With the Mercedes range expanding to new electric models, and updated gasoline vehicles, the way to choose options and features is changing. On previous models, you had the option to add individual features to your Mercedes, with a cost for each. Recently Mercedes have introduced trim levels and packaging features together. One of these trim levels is the Premium trim.

With this change, it’s important to know what features you are getting with each Mercedes, so you can pick the right trim level. We’ve put together this short guide to help you understand the Premium trim in more detail. In this article, we’ll look at the features available on each car, a detailed look at some key features, and our thoughts on the Premium trim.

Let’s get started!

Heated and Ventilated Front Seats

let’s start by looking at one of the most popular features. We’ve included heated and ventilated seats together, as they are similar options, even though they appear on different models. Let’s start with heated front seats.

Heated seats are nothing new for luxury cars, and Mercedes has offered this option for decades. The feature has made its way down from luxury models like the S-Class to mid-spec Mercedes, and it’s now included in the Premium trim for a few different models. With three levels of intensity, the driver and front passenger can access heated seats from their center console or door panel. To add heated seats for rear passengers, this option is included in the Exclusive trim.

Ventilated seats work in a similar way for the driver and front passenger in your Mercedes. With three cooling levels, you can set your own intensity, although you’ll need the Exclusive trim for rear ventilated seats too.

  • C 300 (Heated)
  • C 43 AMG (Heated)

Panoramic Roof

We’ve covered the Panoramic roof feature in detail here, but in short, this option doubles the space of your standard sunroof to allow more light into the cabin. The panoramic roof options from Mercedes are either one single piece of glass covering the whole roof or two pieces of glass.

Mercedes cabin
A panoramic roof will help to make your Mercedes feel more spacious, but it reduces headroom

Some owners won’t want a sunroof at all (and I’m not a fan), but if you want your cabin to feel more spacious, particularly for rear passengers, a panoramic roof is a great feature to have. It’s included on a wide range of models as part of the Premium trim and on other Mercedes cars as a standalone option. You can also find the Panoramic roof as a feature in the Exclusive trim here.

Mercedes vehicles with a panoramic roof included in the Premium Trim:

  • EQE 350

  • EQS 450 SUV
  • EQS 580 SUV

Parktronic

Parking systems are always a useful feature, even if they just involve warning sensors. The Mercedes system, Parktronic, encompasses a number of features to help with parallel parking. This system also includes ‘active parking assist‘ to support you in finding the perfect parking spot.

The Parktronic system allows your Mercedes to scan potential spaces to see if your vehicle can fit. These can be parallel parking spaces or parking in a bay. Once you press the parking button on your console or touchscreen, your central screen will show available parking options. Selecting a space will allow your Mercedes to assist you in parking by controlling the speed and steering.

  • EQB 250
  • EQB 300
  • EQB 350

Burmester 3D Surround Sound

Mercedes have used Burmester sound systems in their cars for years, and upgraded systems are top of the list for many drivers. Across the current Mercedes range, Burmester has introduced four levels of the sound system, from simple upgrades to a fully 4D experience.

The Burmester 3D sound system includes 15 speakers

Within this range is the 3D Surround Sound package. With this setup, you get 15 speakers, over 700 watts, and plenty of customization options. On electric Mercedes cars, there is also an additional setting to add ‘immersive’ sounds into the cabin. Our opinions are split on creating artificial noise for EVs, but we can’t argue with the quality of the general Burmester 3D setup.

To find out more about the Burmester sound systems, we’ve covered them here.

FAQs

What trim levels are available on a Mercedes Benz?

Along with the Premium trim, you can select the Exclusive or Pinnacle trims on these models. A few cars have individual trim names, like the SL Roadster, but the features are similar.

Can you add extra options to the Mercedes Premium trim?

Yes – you still have the option for some individual options with the Premium trim. To add more options, you can upgrade to a higher trim level too.

Is the Premium trim available on every Mercedes?

No – currently, Mercedes are only using trim levels on a handful of models.

How much does it cost to upgrade from the Premium trim?

It costs between $1,500 to $3,000 to upgrade to the Exclusive trim

Summary

overall, the Premium trim contains so great features, but if I were looking for a new Mercedes, I’d consider a few extras. It’s great to see options like Apple CarPlay and Ambient lighting included as standard, and the navigation and parking upgrades are helpful too.

The problem with the Premium trim is that it’s missing the luxury features that Mercedes is known for. Everything in the Premium trim is useful, but if you want massage seats, hands-free access, and a cabin fragrance system, you’ll want the Exclusive or Pinnacle trims.
