The Most Expensive Jeep Models In 2023

The Jeep brand is one of the most famous names in the American automotive industry. With a reputation built on capable off-roaders, in recent years Jeep has expanded out to produce a wider variety of SUVs and trucks to keep up with their rivals. Included in these models are some of the most expensive Jeeps on sale right now.

The cornerstone of the Jeep brand has always been off-roaders like the Wrangler. In 2023 their model range hasn’t lost any of that off-road DNA, but with advances in interior features and hybrid powertrains, the Jeep model range is changing.

So what are the most expensive Jeeps in 2023?

The Most Expensive Jeeps

In this article, we’ll talk about the most expensive Jeep models on sale in 2023. These are standard models with no bespoke options or extremely limited editions.

I’ll give you some info on those limited editions, but they won’t count. In short, everything listed here is available for ordering through the Jeep USA website.

We’ll also compare the starting costs for each vehicle and how much you would need to spend to select every option available. So with that cleared up, let’s get started!

5. Jeep Gladiator $38,775 – $69,485

The first car on our list is the Jeep Gladiator. This is Jeep’s only truck, and it’s unlike anything else on the market right now. For starters, the Gladiator features customization unseen on any other truck, and you can completely change how this car looks and functions depending on your needs.

Performance in the Gladiator comes from either a V6 gas engine with 285 bhp or a V6 turbo diesel with 260 bhp. The gas engine is thirsty, and at less than 300 bhp you’re not going to win any drag races here. That’s ok though because the Gladiator isn’t made for going fast in a straight line, it’s made to go anywhere.

The Gladiator is basically a truck version of the Wrangler, and as a result, it can handle almost anything. All spec levels come with ‘Trail Rated’ 4×4 capability, and as you move up the trim levels there are more and more features to improve the off-road experience. You can spec your Gladiator with off-road tires, limited slip rear diffs, and even a low transfer case. On the accessories front, you can add rock rails, side steps, and a winch if needed.

The Gladiator isn’t all about tough terrain though. In the modern automotive world, you need certain comforts, and the Gladiator has plenty of tech to enjoy. Depending on the trim you get Apple Carplay & Android Auto, keyless entry, and a trail camera in the front bumper to help navigate difficult terrain.

As we mentioned though, the real selling point of the Gladiator has to be its customization. You get access to a number of packages to add more tech and features, including the Cold Weather pack, adding heated seats, and steering wheel. You also have the Advanced Safety Pack, adding adaptive cruise control and collision warning. Finally, the ability to completely remove the roof and doors transforms the Gladiator from a standard truck to something completely unique.

Overall, there are so many options and configurations to choose from here, it’s impossible to pick the perfect Gladiator. From the basic Sport trim at just under $40,000 you get a capable off-roader, but you can climb to almost $70,000 for the Wrangler that has it all. With rivals like Nissan Frontier and Chevrolet Silverado featuring more technology and arguably better comfort, you won’t find a vehicle as unique as this anywhere else.

4. Jeep Wrangler 4xe: $54,735 – $70,270

Next on our list is the Wrangler 4xe. This is an SUV that needs no introduction – it’s an icon of the industry with a history stretching back to World War 2. The current Wrangler keeps the basics from all the previous generations, but this is clearly a modern SUV with plenty of tech and cabin comforts. The new Wrangler 4xe is the best demonstration of this, combining classic Wrangler design with hybrid power.

Like the Gladiator, you have a range of trim levels to choose from here, with plenty of features. Power in the Wrangler 4xe comes with a 2-liter engine and plug-in hybrid, combining to make 375 bhp, and a 0-60 time under 6 seconds. These aren’t incredible numbers, but it makes the Wrangler 4xe a car that’s capable both on or off-road.

The Wrangler 4xe is powered by a hybrid system with 375 bhp

Speaking of off-road, the Wrangler 4xe doesn’t sacrifice any capability in its hybrid form. You get over 30 inches of wading depth, 13 inches of ground clearance, and huge 32-inch all-terrain tires. In addition, you can spec front and rear locking differentials, and an upgraded 4×4 Rock-Track system.

Like the standard Wrangler, the 4xe features plenty of tech inside the car to make your experience as comfortable as possible. You can spec heated seats and a heated steering wheel, Amazon Alexa, and a wifi hotspot. On the top-spec version, there is even the option for Nappa leather seats, which is a great but risky option for regular off-roaders.

The customization on the Wrangler 4xe follows in the footsteps of previous Jeeps, with fully detachable doors and a roof. This is where the Wrangler truly shines and sets it apart from rivals like the Ford Bronco and Land Rover Defender. With the 4xe version, the starting price of nearly $55,000 is on the high side, so owners need to decide if that hybrid system is worth it.

3. Jeep Wagoneer: $58,995 – $89,110

In third place is the Jeep Wagoneer, starting at just under $60,000. The Wagoneer is Jeep’s premium SUV, and while it doesn’t have the off-road capability of the Wrangler or Gladiator, it makes up for that in comfort and features.

The Wagoneer is a full-size SUV, with room for up to eight passengers. With a car this size, you need a suitable level of power, and the 5.7 liter V8 is up to the task here. With almost 400 bhp the Wagoneer isn’t giving SUVs like the G-Wagon any competition, but it’s still got enough performance for almost every owner.

Inside the Wagoneer the cabin is incredibly spacious. You get a host of technology features, including ambient lighting, Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, with everything controlled via a 10-inch touchscreen. There are plenty of packs available, with our pick being the Convenience package, mostly for the 360-degree camera to help with parking.

The Wagoneer has space for up to eight passengers and a V8 engine

Higher spec models have the option for captain chairs in the second row, and entertainment screens with access to Amazon tv in the headrests. There’s the option for a 19-speaker sound system that’s a strong upgrade on the basic spec, but not quite as good as some rivals.

This is a premium SUV but the Wagoneer still keeps some of that Jeep off-road identity. You have adjustable air suspension to raise the ground clearance, and a mode selector to help manage sand, mud, snow, and rock. For any serious off-roading, the four-wheel-drive version is the Wagoneer you’ll want.

At almost $90,000 with options, this is almost in luxury SUV territory. The Wagoneer is a capable vehicle for towing and limited off-road use, but it’ll be far more effective for larger families. It’s interesting to see Jeep move away from serious off-roaders, and compete with the Ford Expedition and Nissan Armada.

2. Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe: $60,360 – $85,690

In second place on our list is the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe. Like the Wrangler 4xe we covered earlier, this is the hybrid version of Jeep’s midsize SUV. The Grand Cherokee is one of the flagship models for Jeep. It’s been around since 1993, and the Grand Cherokee has won award after award throughout the generations. All of that is great, but does the current model like up to those standards?

The 4xe model replaces the standard V6 or V8 with a hybrid powertrain, combining a 2-liter engine with two electric motors. This combination gets you a respectable 375 bhp and over 20 miles of claimed range on just the electric mode. Off-road the hill descent works incredibly well to recharge the batteries, and the 4xe has lost none of its capability on difficult surfaces.

The Grand Cherokee 4xe has up to 20 miles of electric-only range and 375 bhp

That range is perfectly average by hybrid SUV standards, but it’s the power that is more impressive. The motor and engine combination makes the 4xe the most powerful Grand Cherokee on sale, although the extra battery weight does hurt performance.

The 4xe is only available in a two-row setup, with a maximum of five occupants. You have a choice of six trim levels currently, with various interior and exterior upgrades. Standard features include heated seats for all, a 10.1-inch central touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, and a panoramic roof.

As you move up through the trims, extras include entertainment screens for rear passengers, ventilated seats, Nappa leather, and a night-time camera. Without a 3-row setup, the Grand Cherokee 4xe has plenty of storage space left, but the lack of passenger room and price will put some owners off.

1. Jeep Grand Wagoneer: $88,640 – $117,675

In the top spot on our list is the Jeep Grand Wagoneer. We’ve already covered the standard Wagoneer, which was Jeep’s entry into the larger SUV market. The Grand Wagoneer expands on that model, and as the name suggests everything is dialed up a level, including the price.

Performance comes from either a 6.4-liter V8 engine with 510 bhp or a 3.0-liter Inline-6 with the same horsepower. With equal power, the 6-cylinder is the best choice here and is only available on higher-spec models. Performance in the I6 takes the Grand Wagoneer to 60mph in 4.7 seconds, which is impressive in a car this size. Speaking of size, the towing capacity of almost 10,000 lbs makes this an incredibly capable SUV.

The Grand Wagoneer comes with the option for an inline-6 or V8 engine

The differences between this SUV and the standard Wagoneer become clearer when you step inside. This car feels like a luxury European SUV, and with design and tech, you could mistake this for a Ranger Rover or Audi Q7. You get two 10.3-inch touchscreens on higher-spec models to control both the infotainment and climate settings. Ambient lighting is everywhere, and the whole cabin has plenty of aluminum and real wood.

Technology in the Grand Wagoneer is abundant. With options, you get multiple screens for rear passengers, and in total there are more than 75 inches of screen display area inside the cabin. There is multiple zone climate control, wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, and a Grand Wagoneer app to control various functions. There is also all the usual driver and parking assistance, with 360-degree cameras, automated parking, blind-spot monitors, and lane-keeping assists.

All of this tech and comfort doesn’t come cheap though. With a starting price of nearly $90,000, the Grand Wagoneer is competing with the likes of the BMW X7, Mercedes GLS, and Cadillac Escalade. At these price levels, brand recognition has an impact on buyer decisions, and it will be interesting to see how the Grand Wagoneer competes.

Summary

So overall, the list of the most expensive Jeep models looks like this:

  • Gladiator $38,775 – $69,485
  • Wrangler 4xe: $54,735 – $70,270
  • Wagoneer: $58,995 – $89,110
  • Grand Cherokee 4xe: $60,360 – $85,690
  • Grand Wagoneer: $88,640 – $117,675

Compared to brands like Ford and Nissan the Jeep range isn’t all that diverse, with only SUVs and trucks. That being said, it’s equally as impressive to see Jeep sticking to what made them successful, with true off-road vehicles.

The Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer may be the first sign of Jeep branching out more, and the 4xe versions are definite moves towards hybrid systems on all models in the near future. It will be exciting to see where Jeep goes next with future models, and if we start to see even more variation in the lineup.
