How Does Wireless Charging Work In A Toyota?
Toyota models feature a Qi wireless charging pad, allowing you to charge a variety of devices. Most major phone manufacturers, including Apple, Samsung, Google, and more, use the Qi charging system, so it’s very likely your phone will be compatible.
How to charge your phone wirelessly in a Toyota
To charge your device using the wireless pad, you need to place your phone in the charging tray on your Toyota’s center console. This pad will be located in the armrest or next to your drive selector. When charging has started, a light will appear on your charging pad to confirm.
Does every Toyota come with a wireless charger?

Can you add a wireless charger to your Toyota?
If you own a Toyota without a wireless charger, or you’re looking to buy a preowned model that doesn’t include this feature, is there anything you can do? Well, there’s good and bad news here if you want a wireless charger in your Toyota.
The bad news is that you can’t get a wireless charger fitted by Toyota. Like most features and options you need to select this on a new model, and you can’t add features after the vehicle is built.
The good news is that you can find plenty of aftermarket solutions. These always come with risks as the technology isn’t approved by Toyota, but there are many guides and products out there. We don’t have any experience with adding a wireless charger to a Toyota, so we can’t recommend any products.
Is a Wireless Charger worth adding to a Toyota?
If you’re thinking about buying a new Toyota, or you are looking for a preowned model, do you need a wireless charger? If it was me, in all honesty, I could live without this feature, but it’s incredibly helpful to have one in your vehicle.
When I’m driving with the family, or I have friends in the car, there is always one phone low on charge. The hassle of making sure I have the right cable and also the problem of losing that cable (had a couple of occasions where my brother charged his phone and left with the cable instead of leaving it in the car) can be frustrating.
A wireless charger isn’t as quick as a cable, and for obvious reasons, you can’t use your phone as a passenger while it’s charging. Even so, it’s convenient to just drop your phone on the charging pad without worrying about cables and compatibility.
