With so many different trims, and tire sizes ranging from 19 inches to 22 inches, it’s not easy to find the best tire for your GLE. That’s why we’ve put together this list of our favorite tires for every GLE model.
Below, you’ll find our top picks for the best performance tires, tires that are great on a budget, and more. We’ve split them into each tire size too, so if you check your GLE model, you can find the right tires for your Mercedes here.

What Tires are available on the Mercedes GLE?
Across the Mercedes GLE range, tires are available from 19 inches to 22 inches. In the below table, we’ve listed the range of tires available:

How Do I Check My Tire Specs?
Along the edge of every tire, you will find the specs. They are usually shown like in the image below, with three numbers and a letter:
- Width (the larger number, usually between 200-400)
- Profile (often between 30-100)
- Tire Construction (a single letter)
- Rim Size (the size of your wheel, often between 15-25)
There may be extra details after the rim size, which can include:
- Load Rating (a number between 90-120)
- Speed Rating (a single letter)
What Do My Tire Specs Mean?
Tire specs provide information on your tire dimensions and performance:
- Width: measured in millimeters, this is the width of the tire from side to side
- Profile: this is the height of the tire’s sidewall, as a ratio against the width. In simple terms, the larger this value, the ‘thicker’ the tire
- Construction: The structure of the tire. Most modern tires are radial (shown with an R), but some run-flat tires will have a different designation.
- Rim Size: the diameter of your wheel, measured in inches
- Load Rating: How much weight the tire can support. This number is from a load index chart, and the higher the number, the more weight a tire can cope with
- Speed Rating: A letter designating the maximum safe speed a tire can handle. Common speed ratings are H (130mph), V (149 mph), W (168 mph), and Y (186 mph)

19 Inch Tires
First up are our 19-inch tire choices. These tires are available in one spec, shown below:
- Front 275 / 55 / R19
- Rear 275 / 55 /R19
for 19-inch GLE models, we only recommend all-season or winter tires
All-Season Tire: Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3
For 19-inch GLE models, our favorite all-season tire is the Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3. It was close between this and the Michelin Pilot All-Season, but The Pirelli is an excellent tire. With a high load rating, this tire is perfectly capable on a large SUV like the GLE, and handling is impressive too.
The Pirelli Scorpion is a premium tire, and this is an expensive tire, but it comes in lower than its main rivals. The fuel efficiency isn’t as good as other all-season tires, but the Scorpion AS is one of the most capable tires in wet conditions.
Winter Tire: Bridgestone Blizzak DM-V2
For a winter tire on your GLE, the Bridgestone Blizzak is our top choice. There aren’t many winter options, but this is easily our favorite of all the tires available. If you’ve read our other tire articles, you’ll know this is one of our top winter tires picks too.
Winter tires are focused on grip and handling above all else, to handle the difficult conditions of ice and snow. It’s not a tire that you should use all year round, but in those months when the weather is worst, this is the tire you need on your GLE.
20 Inch Tires
On GLE models with 20-inch tires, you should have the specs shown below:
- Front 275 / 50 / R20
- Rear 275 / 50 / R20
On these tire specs, there are no budget tires that we recommend
Performance Tire: Michelin Pilot Sport 4 SUV
For the performance tire of choice on your 20-inch GLE, it has to be the Pilot Sport 4. This tire was developed specifically for SUV models and is able to manage higher loads without sacrificing performance. It’s one of our top tires on BMW SUVs, and it’s our top choice here.
Like any performance tire, the focus is handling, both in the dry and the wet. The Pilot Sport 4 excels in both situations, although you’ll have to live with a bit of extra road noise compared to all-season models. Still, if you want the best performance from your GLE, this is definitely a tire to consider.
All-Season Tire: Michelin CrossClimate 2
For a tire you can use all year on your GLE, the CrossClimate 2 is our favorite. This is another tire we’ve heavily featured on various cars and SUV models, and that’s because it’s a fantastic all-season tire.
The CrossClimate 2 is expensive, but it offers good tire lifetime, solid handling, and it eliminates most of the road noise. If you want the best all-around tire for your GLE and you have the budget, the CrossClimate is the tire for you.
Winter Tire: Vredestein Wintrac Pro
If you need a winter tire for your GLE, this option from Vredestein is a great choice. It’s a decent saving against premium brands, and Vredestein is one of our favorite manufacturers outside of the household names.
The Wintrac Pro isn’t going to impress anyone with comfort levels, and it won’t help your fuel economy, but this is a winter tire, after all. It’s designed for control and grip on snow and ice, and for these tasks, the Wintrac Pro is an excellent tire.
21 Inch Tires
on high spec GLE models, you’ll might find your SUV is fitted with 21-inch tires. At these sizes every tire on offer is expensive, but we still have a few favorites.
- Front 275 / 45 / R21
- Rear 315 / 40 / R21
On these tire specs, there are no budget tires that we recommend
Performance Tire: Pirelli P Zero PZ4
For GLE models with 21-inch wheels, the Pirelli P Zero is our top-performance tire. This tire comes with the highest speed and load ratings and excellent handling in the wet. It’s a tire that allows you to push your GLE, and the P Zero is one of the best-selling tires from the entire Pirelli range.
With any great performance tire, you sacrifice a bit of comfort, and the road noise increases. These are tires designed for speed and handling, and as a result, these come with a larger price tag than your average tire.
All-Season Tire: Michelin Primacy Tour A/S
The best all-season tire for 21-inch GLE models is the Michelin Primacy Tour. Earlier in the article we covered a Michelin CrossClimate for our favorite all-season choice, and it’s another Michelin here that tops our list.
The Primacy Tour offers you everything you’d expect and need from an all-season tire. There’s good handling in the wet, and these tires will last you plenty of miles too. Moving from a less expensive brand to these, the first thing you’ll notice will be the lack of road noise and comfort.
Winter Tire: Pirelli Scorpion Winter
When you have a GLE with 21-inch wheels, I would be surprised if you wanted to drive it in the snow, but there is always that chance. If you need a winter tire, the Pirelli Scorpion Winter is the tire we would choose, as it’s one of the best-performing tires out there.
If you’ve seen our posts covering other SUV tires, you’ll know that this is one of our favorite options for winter driving. The grip on snow is fantastic, and these Scorpion Winter tires last longer than most of the other winter tires we’ve seen. Road noise is high though, and you’ll lose some fuel economy if you drive on these all year.
22 Inch Tires
Finally, for a handful of the top GLE models, you have 22-inch tires. At these sizes, tire selection is rare, but there are a few of our favorites available:

- Rear 325 / 35 / R22

Performance Tire: Michelin Pilot Sport 4S
We haven’t seen this tire on our list yet, but on 22-inch GLE models, the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S is an easy decision. This is the pinnacle of performance tires for the road, and it’s probably our favorite tire full stop.
With incredible handling in the wet and dry, even a large SUV feels confident on a set of these tires. You pay for that performance though, and on 22-inch wheels, these are an expensive set.
All-Season Tire: Pirelli Scorpion Zero All Season
Another premium brand for our next pick, the Pirelli Scorpion Zero is the best all-season tire by far. You still get the same load rating and top speed at the Pilot Sport 4S, but a focus on longevity and comfort over performance.
The Scorpion Zero still keeps some of that Pirelli performance DNA, but it’s a well-rounded tire. It’s not the most comfortable tire we’ve tried, but on a 22-inch wheel on a larger SUV, the suspension setup means you won’t even notice.
The Best Tire Accessories
If you’re looking for a new set of tires for your GLE, you’ll want to make sure you look after them too. Keeping your tires clean, inflated, and stored safely is vital, so I wanted to share a few of the items I keep to make sure my tires are in the best condition.
These accessories include places to store and protect your tires when they are not in use, which is ideal if you have a set of winter and summer tires. You’ll also need a tire inflator kit, and it’s important to keep tire sealant in case you end up with a puncture.
Finally, keeping your tires clean is overlooked by so many drivers. I’ll see people spend hundreds on keeping their car paint and interior surfaces in top condition, but you need to make sure your wheels and tires are in the best shape too!
