On a modern Mercedes Benz, you expect to find all kinds of luxury features included. Mercedes are one of the most recognizable brands in the automotive industry and one of the front runners for luxury vehicles. Regarding passenger comfort, the right climate and temperature is a vital feature, and we’ve had the technology for heated seats and climate control for decades.
One newer invention though has been ventilated seats. For most drivers, there’s nothing better than a heated seat when sitting on the cold leather in your car, but what about warmer climates? Well, ventilated seats were brought in to solve that issue, and as expected, Mercedes have been leading the way here too.
What you’re here to find out, though, is:
- Does every Mercedes vehicle have ventilated seats?
- How much does it cost to add ventilated seats if I’m buying a Mercedes?
We’ll cover both these questions in the article below and also show you how to use ventilated seats in your Mercedes. Let’s get started!
How do ventilated seats work?
Ventilated seats operate using a number of fans built into the seats themselves. These fans are designed to work at various speeds to offer increasing levels of cooling (similar to the intensity levels of heated seats).
Ventilated seats are often confused with ‘cooled’ seats – it’s an easy mistake to make. Cooled seats use fluid stored within tubes that are built into the seat. This fluid is cooled and pumped through the seat to cool the occupant. The result is similar – although cooled seats are usually more effective. As you’d expect, these are far more expensive and less common than the ventilated system.
How to access ventilated seats on your Mercedes
On current Mercedes vehicles, the ventilated seat control is usually located on the door, in the same place as your heated seat button. Like the heated seats, you should have three levels of intensity, and by clicking the button, you can increase or switch off the ventilated seat option.
Do all Mercedes Benz models have ventilated seats?
All current Mercedes models include ventilated seats, either as standard or as an optional extra. Below we’ve listed those Mercedes vehicles where ventilated seats come as standard and also the cost of adding ventilated seats as an extra.
Mercedes models with ventilated seats as standard
Most current ‘high spec’ Mercedes vehicles have ventilated seats as standard. There are some exceptions for models that haven’t seen a ‘refresh’ in the last couple of years, which we’ve covered in the next section.

Mercedes models with ventilated seats as an optional extra

They are also an optional extra on some higher-level models that are coming to the end of their current model life. These include cars such as the GLE, and we expect to see ventilated seats as standard when the new versions are released.

Is it worth adding ventilated seats to your Mercedes?
The value of adding ventilated seats is going to depend almost exclusively on your climate. If you’re in a colder climate, then you’ll probably get very little use for this feature, and your $450 could be spent on better options.
If you’re in a warmer climate, then it’s worth considering ventilated seats. In our opinion, most heated seats are too powerful, even on lower settings, but Mercedes-ventilated seats are far more comfortable. As an optional extra, $450 is a lot to spend though, so I’d recommend test-driving a Mercedes with this feature first to get an idea of how beneficial it will be for you.
