Lexus has created some of the highest quality cars from any Japanese manufacturer over the years, and they deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as the likes of Audi, BMW, and Mercedes. Along with the major German brands, Lexus has followed their example with the optional features they offer, including the Luxury package.
The Lexus Luxury pack is one of the most expensive options you can add to your Lexus. Only available on a handful of models, you get improvements to almost every part of your car. With that comes a cost, and for anyone looking at a Lexus, you’ll want to know if the Luxury pack is available and worth the money.
In this article, we’ll answer both of those questions. First, we’ve covered the Lexus models with the Luxury pack available and how much this costs on each vehicle. Finally, we’ll give you our thoughts on if the Luxury pack is worth adding.

Luxury Features
With the Lexus Luxury pack, there are a few features we wanted to explain in more detail:
Lexus Interface with 14-inch Multimedia Touchscreen Display
The Lexus NX starts with a 9.8-inch central display as standard, but you can upgrade this to a 14-inch display as part of the Luxury package. The base 9.8-inch screen isn’t small, and it’s perfectly useable, but the Luxury option is a significant upgrade.
As a touchscreen it’s much easier to navigate than the standard display – icons are larger and clearer, and it’s a major benefit when you’re driving. Our first experience in the NX felt overwhelming with a central screen like this, but you quickly get used to it.
The other benefit of the larger display is that you also have a 3-year trial of Lexus’ Drive Connect system. Drive Connect is the advanced voice command system from Lexus, with cloud-based updates to help get you the latest information. It didn’t feel like a huge step up from a standard system, but it’s a welcome bonus.
Intuitive Parking Assist with Automatic Braking
The intuitive parking system is included in the Luxury package to help drivers with reversing and avoiding obstacles. When you start reversing the system begins to detect any objects nearby through a range of sensors surrounding your Lexus. If any objects get too close, you’ll hear a warning from the car, and your central display will show how close the object is.
The second part of this feature is automatic braking. In situations where your Lexus thinks there is a risk of you hitting an obstacle, automatic braking is applied. This feature works when you’re moving forwards or backward, up to a speed of 10 mph.
For us, the intuitive parking should be a standard feature – on modern Lexus models, this isn’t what you would call a ‘luxury’ option. Still, the automatic braking might save you more than the cost of the Luxury pack in a parking situation, so it’s a solid feature to have.
Thematic Ambient Illumination
When we first heard Lexus introduce ‘Thematic Ambient Illumination’ it sounded like a marketing term for some interior lighting. Plenty of modern cars have an ambient lighting system, so why is this system so special?
In truth, there’s nothing revolutionary about the Thematic Ambient Illumination, but it’s one of the better interior lighting systems we’ve used. On most current Lexus models with this option, interior lighting is located in the footwells, on the doors, and in the center console. The lighting coverage can’t compete with the likes of Mercedes, but the customization options in the Lexus are where it impresses the most.
The current thematic system includes 14 color themes, designed to represent different ‘moods’, and you can also customize your own color scheme. You can also adjust overall brightness, or change this in each ‘zone’ of the car – so if you only want the doors illuminated, that’s an option here. It’s an impressive system, and while it’s not the best out there, the thematic illumination is a step up from Lexus’ standard interior lighting.
Heated Rear Seats
Only available on the LS 500 model, as part of the Luxury pack, the heated rear seat option is designed to offer rear passengers the ultimate comfort. Like the BMW 7 Series or Mercedes S Class, the LS 500 is Lexus’ premium sedan and is designed with rear passengers in mind.
Like most of the rear seat controls, the heated seat function is accessible through the central armrest screen. You can control the heating on each seat individually, and there are a number of intensity levels to choose from with this feature.
How much does the Lexus Luxury Package cost?
Depending on the Lexus model, the features included in the Luxury pack are varied, and this means the cost is different for each car too. Below we’ve covered the current cost for adding the Luxury pack to each Lexus model:
- NX 250 – $6,150
- NX 350 – $7,450
- NX 350h – $7,450
- NX 350 F Sport Handing – $2,200
- LS 500 – $11,935
Is the Lexus luxury pack worth adding?
The luxury package is one of the most expensive options packs from Lexus. Considering the options included it makes sense to offer this at such a high price, but this is still a difficult package to justify if you’re buying some of these cars.
On the NX models, the cost of the luxury pack is to convince owners to choose the higher-spec models, where most of these features are already included for free. If you don’t want the extra performance from the NX 450 versions, we would choose a few individual options instead, and save money.
For example, the upgraded infotainment screen (one of the best features of the luxury pack) is available on its own at $1,100. You can also add Thematic lighting for $100, so it’s worth checking what options are available. If you want everything in the Luxury pack, it’s better value to buy the whole thing, but at least Lexus gives you options.
On the LS 500 model, we’d expect more owners to go with the luxury pack. At nearly $12,000 this might seem excessive, but the LS starts at just under $80,000, so you expect some expensive features. Again, it’s worth checking the individual options if you don’t want everything here.
Overall, the Luxury pack feels like a combination of too many features to be worth it. There are some fantastic features included in each model, but you can choose most as individual options, and for us, that is always the best way to go.
