The Hyundai Convenience Package Explained

The current Hyundai range includes some impressive features, but with all the different trim levels, it’s difficult to know what features you’re getting with each model. Like most manufacturers, Hyundai offers packages on certain models – these are collections of optional extras. One example is the Convenience Pack, available on four current Hyundai models.

So what exactly is included in the Convenience Package, and what models include this pack? We’ve answered both of those questions in the article below to help you find the best Hyundai for you. We’ve also covered the cost of the Convenience Package, which varies depending on your Hyundai model.

Let’s get started!

What is the Hyundai Convenience Package?

Let’s start by looking at what models have this pack and what is included when choosing the Convenience package. This can be confusing, as Hyundai includes different options depending on the vehicle model.

Which Hyundai Models have the Convenience Package?

The convenience pack is only available on a small number of Hyundai models:

  • Kona SEL
  • Tucson SEL
  • Elantra SEL
  • Sonata SEL

What’s included in the Convenience Package?

Depending on the Hyundai model, the Convenience Package includes the following features:

  • Hyundai Digital Key
  • Power Sunroof
  • Leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear knob
  • Extra cargo area storage compartment
  • Wireless Device Charging
  • Heated front seats
  • Automatic climate control
  • 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation
  • 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster
  • 12.3-inch LCD instrument cluster
  • H-Tex trimmed seats
  • Ambient lighting
  • Auto-dimming rear mirror
  • Upgraded alloy wheels
  • Electronic parking brake
  • Heated outside mirrors
  • Dynamic voice recognition
  • Forward collision avoidance assistant
  • Smart cruise control (with stop-and-go)
  • USB chargers for second-row seats

Upgraded Alloy Wheels

On the Tucson and Elantra models, the Convenience pack comes with upgraded alloys. The Tucson SEL gets 19-inch alloys (upgraded from 17-inch), and the Elantra gets 17-inch alloy wheels (upgraded from 16-inch).

The upgraded 19-inch alloys on the Tucson are a major improvement

The new wheels make a noticeable difference on both models, particularly the Tucson. Considering a set of good wheels is going to set you back around $1,000 anyway, these represent great value for money when you combine them with all the extra features.

  • Elantra SEL

Ambient Lighting

Ambient lighting is one of our favorite interior features on most vehicles, and the Hyundai system is excellent. Unfortunately, the Convenience Pack only adds a 10-color system to the Tucson SEL, which is a step down from their premium 64-color feature on high-spec models.

Even so, the addition of ambient lighting makes a difference to the Tucson cabin, and if this weren’t part of the Convenience Pack, we’d look to add this as a standalone option anyway.

Upgraded Touchscreen

The central infotainment screen has become the main focus of every car interior, and most car functions are controlled here. The option to increase your central screen is going to be a choice most owners will take, and that’s part of the reason Hyundai has included this as part of the convenience pack.

The upgraded screens on the Kona & Elantra (10.25-inch), and the 12.5-inch screen on the Sonata fit their cars much better than the entry-level screens. Displays are clearer, you get upgraded navigation info, and it’s easier to operate while driving.

  • Sonata SEL

Heated Front Seats

There isn’t much to explain here, but if you want the extra comfort and convenience of heated seats on your Hyundai, it might be worth looking at the Convenience Package. Adding front seat heating to the Kona and Elantra, if you’re in a colder climate, this feature is a must.

Automatic Climate Control

The automatic climate control feature allows you to select a temperature for your cabin, and the system will automatically adjust to reach that temperature. This isn’t a revolutionary feature in Hyundai models, but it’s a welcome addition for occupants. Available on the Tucson and Kona models, the automatic climate control is a useful part of the Convenience Pack.

  • Kona SEL
  • Tucson SEL

Wireless Charger

Another basic but incredibly useful feature of the Convenience Package is the wireless charging tray. The wireless charging pad is located in the center console, just below the central touchscreen. It’s compatible with most current and recent smartphones, but it’s always best to check if your phone will work.

  • Kona SEL – $2,400
  • Tucson SEL – $2,250
  • Elantra SEL – $1,900

FAQs

What is the best feature of the Hyundai convenience pack?

Our favorite features in the convenience package are the Ambient lighting and the upgraded touchscreen.

Can you add the convenience package to every Hyundai?

No – there are only a handful of Hyundai models with the convenience pack as an option

Can you add convenience features separately?

Some convenience options can be added separately to your Hyundai, but most options will cost extra

Is the Convenience Package worth buying?

Overall, the Convenience Pack is great value for money, depending on the model. With upgraded alloys and ambient lighting, the $2,250 cost on the Tucson would be a no-brainer for us. On other models, the features list isn’t as interesting, but you still get a lot for your money.

The argument against the Convenience Pack is an easy one too. For slightly more than the Convenience Package cost, you can upgrade the SEL trims to the higher levels, getting most of these features and plenty more too. If you’re on a budget, the Convenience Pack might be the best option, but if you want the very best, go with the higher trim level.
