Remote start has become an increasingly popular feature on modern vehicles. With the widespread use of apps from almost every car manufacturer, you can now control more from your phone than ever before, including the option to remotely start your vehicle.
If you’re looking at a new Ford then the good news is that remote start is included across most of the current range, but not on every vehicle, and on most of the range it’s still an optional extra. In this article we’ve covered the basics of how to use remote start, which Ford models have this feature, and how much it costs to add.
Below we’ve listed every current Ford with remote start as a standard feature, how much it costs to add to certain models, and which Ford models come without the option for remote start entirely. First though, let’s run through what remote start actually means.
How does the remote start feature work?
The remote start feature allows you to turn on your ignition from outside the vehicle and adjust the temperature in your Ford in preparation for your driving. You can be up to 300 feet away from your Ford, and remote start can be accessed through your key fob or the FordPass app.
Remote Start using your key
To remote start your Ford using the car key press the remote start button twice. This is the button shaped like a curved arrow, and once pressed twice, your headlights should flash twice. The engine will then turn on for between 5 and 15 minutes to achieve the interior temperature set in the vehicle.
Remote Start using the FordPass app
Using remote start through your FordPass app allows you more control than your key, with access to climate features. Within the FordPass app, you have a button on the main screen to ‘Start Engine’, and this will engage the remote start. You can also adjust the set temperature by going into the settings tab, then remote start setup, then climate control.

Is the remote start feature worth adding?
If you’re looking at one of the Ford models where remote start is an optional extra, it’s definitely worth considering this feature. If you’re after a Ford truck, then the cost of adding remote start comes in at less than $200, which is well worth it for the benefits.
Remote start will always be more useful to those of you in warmer or colder climates. The ability to defrost or cool your interior on those extreme weather days is a satisfying feeling, even if it’s only for a handful of days each year. Having said that, on some Ford models the cost of packs goes above $3,000, so unless you like the look of all those features, don’t pay that price for the remote start.
