The Sun Protection Package from Mercedes Benz is one of the most straightforward optional extras we’ve seen in a while. In a market where brands create overly complex packages to encourage owners to part with slightly more money at the dealership, the Sun Protection pack keeps things relativity simple.
But this doesn’t tell us a lot about what the sun protection pack is, and if this is a pack worth paying for. In this article, we’ll answer those questions, by taking a look at the features and prices of the sun protection pack.
So what exactly is included in the Mercedes Sun Protection package, and is it worth the cost?
What’s Included In The Sun Protection Package?
The Sun Protection package from Mercedes Benz contains the following options:
Electric Rear Window Roller Blind
The first feature in the Sun Protection package is an electric rear roller blind. Simply, if you have the sun beating through the rear window, the blind will cover the window and take out most of the heat and glare.
The rear roller blind allows you to see out with a minimal loss of vision, but those looking in from the outside in can see very little. This makes the roller blind useful not only in sunny conditions but also when you want some privacy in the car.
Manual Rear Side Window Roller Blind
The second element of the air balance package are manually adjustable side window blinds. These blinds are made of similar material to the rear window blind, blocking out most of the sun & heat, while still allowing rear passengers to see.
These side window blinds aren’t as useful as the rear window blind, but they can still offer some comfort. For starters, they are manually operated so you can only access them from the rear seats and offer very little protection to anyone in the front. Still, if you are a passenger in the rear these blinds can come in useful.
What Mercedes Benz Models Have This Package?
The air balance package is available on the below models:
- E Class AMG
How Much Does It Cost?
The cost of the air balance package depends on the model, but as a guide for the US market:
- E Class AMG – $800
Is The Sun Protection Package Worth It?
Overall, this is a package with very limited use, and will only suit a small number of owners. If you live in a warm climate and/or often have passengers in the back seats, then this pack could be useful. For us, the $800 price tag simply doesn’t seem worth it for the features you get, and that money would be better spent on packages like the Air Balance Pack.
How Does This Compare To Other Mercedes Benz Packages?
Is the Sun Protection Package the best optional extra from Mercedes? Absolutely not, but when you have packs such as the Multimedia and Premium options, it’s difficult to compare considering the difference in features.
Mercedes, like most luxury car manufacturers, has a reputation for excessive optional extras. Many of the extras included in packages should really be standard, but I’ll be honest and accept that the Sun Protection package isn’t something I would expect as standard, so in that way, it’s good to see this as an extra package.
