If we had to define Mercedes Benz as an optional extra on their current vehicles, it would be the Air Balance Package. This feature perfectly aligns with the Mercedes philosophy of going the extra mile to provide comfort for their users, with a price tag associated of course.
But this doesn’t tell us a lot about what the air balance pack is, and whether the cost of this ‘extra comfort’ is worth ticking that box at the dealership. In this article, we’ll answer those questions, by taking a look at the features and prices of this pack.
So what exactly is included in the Mercedes Air Balance package, and is it worth the cost?
What’s Included In The Air Balance Package?
The air balance package from Mercedes Benz contains the following options:
Air Balance Cabin-air Purification System
The first feature in the air balance package is a filtration and purification system. The system works through a combination of a charcoal filter and air ionization, to purify the air entering the cabin.
By removing particles such as dust and pollen, air quality in the cabin is improved. The purification system also works to remove odors, by using an electrical charge to contain particles within the filter system.
Overall, this is a surprisingly impressive feature and performs better than you would expect. It sounds like a marketing tool from Mercedes, but the system does make a difference when used. We’d be interested to see how well this worked for anyone with hay fever too, as the system should provide significant relief.
Air Balance Cabin Fragrance System
The second element of the air balance package is a fragrance system. This feature gives you the choice of four fragrances, controlled through the central screen. The fragrances are held in the glove box and can be easily swapped out when the atomizer is depleted.
Through the central display, you can select the concentration of each fragrance, and turn the system on or off when required. The fragrance system does make a difference in the cabin, and it’s a great feature to have, but it’s a system you could replace with most aftermarket car fragrances.
What Mercedes Benz Models Have This Package?
The air balance package is available on the below models:
- GLE high spec models
- GLE Coupe
- GLS
- E Class AMG
- EQS AMG
- E Class coupe
- CLS coupe
- AMG GT
- E Class convertible
How Much Does It Cost?
The cost of the air balance package depends on the model, but as a guide for the US market:
- GLE high spec models – $350
- GLE Coupe – $350
- GLS – $350
- E Class AMG – $350
- EQS AMG – $350
- E Class coupe – $350
- CLS coupe – $350
- AMG GT 4 Door – $350
- E Class convertible – $350
Is The Air Balance Package Worth It?
In our opinion, the Air Balance Package is great value for money on premium vehicles within the Mercedes lineup. You might feel like $350 for some fragrances is a little steep, but most owners will get more use from the purification system.
If you’re mostly using your Mercedes in urban areas, the air purification alone feels worth the money. I’ll be honest, it seems a strange option on the E-Class Cabriolet, but for every other model, this is a package I’d strongly consider.
How Does This Compare To Other Mercedes Benz Packages?
It’s difficult to compare the Air Balance package with anything else in the Mercedes Benz options list. There are definitely packs available with more useful features, such as the Premium Pack, but these come with a high price tag.
Considering the base cost of the Mercedes models that have this pack as an option, I’d expect most owners to choose every option. Like the Warmth and Comfort Pack, the Air Balance option may seem limited, but you might be surprised how beneficial it can be.
