The BMW Luxury Seating Package Explained

Let’s face it – there are a lot of packages and options on modern BMWs. The variety can get confusing sometimes, and choices like the executive package are not always clear. Even options that sound obvious aren’t always what you would expect, so it’s best to check what you are selecting when you look at a BMW.

This is true for the luxury seating package. It sounds simple enough, but there are a few features on the luxury seating package that vary depending on your BMW model. This means a 5 Series with the luxury seat package may have different options than an X5 with the luxury seating package selected. It might sound strange, but we’ll clear things up below.

What’s included in the BMW Luxury Seating Package?

The BMW luxury seating package contains the following options, depending on the model you are buying:

  • Ventilated Seats
  • Multi-contour seats
  • Massage seats

Ventilated Seats

Most BMWs come with an option for heated seats, but the luxury seating package takes this a step further. Front-ventilated seats are often confused for cooled seats, but there are some differences. A cooled seat uses a refrigerant liquid within the seats to cool the air, similar to how your air conditioning system works. The ventilated seats keep the driver and passenger cool using fans within the seat.

Ventilated seats won’t be vital for every owner, due to climate differences, but in the right environment, they can be a great option to have. Most BMWs with the luxury seating option only ventilate the front seats, but 7 Series models offer rear ventilated seats too.

Multi-Contour Seats

Multi-contour seats take the standard electronically adjustable seats one step further. On current BMW models with this feature, you have 20 ways to adjust your seat and save your settings with a memory function.

With this option, you can adjust the headrest position, alongside the backrest and lumbar support width, and all the standard adjustments possible on most seats. For me, this option is slightly excessive, and as a BMW owner with standard electronic adjustable seats I manage perfectly, but for some owners, this will be incredibly useful.

Massage Seats

Massage seats have become standard in luxury cars in recent years. In some cars, I’ve found massage seats to be nothing more than a gimmick, but speaking to a few BMW owners with this option, the feedback is really positive.

In the latest BMW models, the massage seats have different programs you can choose from. As a passenger, it’s probably the ultimate luxury, but as a driver, I’m not sure if I would use this while driving. Nevertheless, it’s still a great option to have.

What BMW Models Have This Package?

The luxury seating package is limited to only a handful of BMW models currently. You’ll find this option on the following models.

  • 5 Series (various models)
  • X5 (various models)
  • 7 Series (various models)

On some BMW models, the luxury seating package is included in larger packages, and you can also spec individual options such as ventilated seats on some cars.

How Much Does It Cost?

The cost of the luxury seating package depends on the model, but as a rough guide for the US and UK markets:

5 Series: $1,000 / £2,500 (Included in Comfort Plus Pack)

X5: $1,600 / £4,995 (Included in Comfort Plus Pack)

7 Series (front and rear seats) : $1,000 + $600 / £2,500 + £5,000 (Included in Comfort Packs)

This type of pricing structure is usual for BMW models – with the higher spec models costing more for each package.

Is the Luxury Seating Package Worth It?

Unlike a lot of BMW packages, this focuses on a single part of the vehicle, and I think it makes it easier to decide whether the luxury seating package is worth buying. If you’re expecting long-distance journeys I would strongly recommend this option, particularly in hotter climates. The ventilated seats alone will be worth it.

If you’re using your BMW on shorter journeys, this package won’t be a necessity. It’ll be a good option and your passengers will appreciate it, but you can probably do without it if you’re on a budget for packages. Overall though, the luxury seating package is worth a look.
