If you’re looking at buying a BMW SUV and you’re in a colder or hotter climate, keeping the interior comfortable is going to be one of your top priorities. Fortunately, BMW have you covered, with the Climate Comfort Package. Available on higher-spec BMW models, this pack adds a handful of features to make the cabin exactly to your liking.
So what exactly is included in the Climate Comfort Package, and is it right for you? We’ll cover the features included in the Climate Comfort Pack, and which vehicles come with this option. And most importantly, we’ll cover the price of this package, and if it’s worth it.
What is the BMW Climate Comfort Package?
Let’s start by looking at what models have this pack and what is included when choosing the Climate Comfort package. This can be confusing, as BMW includes different options depending on the vehicle model.
What BMW Models Have This Package?
The Climate Comfort package is limited to only a handful of BMW models currently. You’ll find this in the following models.
- BMW X5
- BMW X6
- BMW X7
What’s included in the BMW Climate Comfort Package?
The BMW Climate Comfort package contains the following options, depending on the model you are buying:
- Heated Front Seats, Armrests & Steering Wheel
- Rear Heated Seats
- Front Ventilated Seats
- 4/5 Zone Climate Control
Heated Front Seats, Armrests & Steering Wheel
The first part of the Climate Comfort Package is the combination of heated seats, a heated steering wheel, and heated central armrests. This feature allows you to control the different heat levels for each part of the cabin, and also set a temperature for the heating to turn on automatically.
The controls for this feature are found in the iDrive system. In the climate control section, you’ll find the option to select a starting temperature. This function allows the car to automatically turn on the heated features if it detects a temperature lower than your selection, so as soon as you start the car it will start heating.
You can also select the intensity of each feature, on a three-level scale. This can be done individually for each part of the car, so if you want your heated seat at a higher level than your steering wheel, you can change this in the settings.
Rear Heated Seats
The second part of the Climate Comfort Package is the option for heated rear seats. Like the front heated seats, these can be controlled at different levels of heating intensity depending on your preference. The controls for your rear seats are located on the rear of the center console, next to the climate control.
This can be a useful feature but it’s worth considering how often you will need heated rear seats. For larger families, this will be a good option to select. If you’re not expecting to have many rear passengers, this is probably a feature you can avoid.
Front Ventilated Seats
The front ventilated seat feature is next in the Climate Comfort Package. This adds a cooling option for your front seats, using ventilated air. These are different from ‘cooled’ seats on other vehicles, which use a cooled liquid to add instant cold air to your seats.
The ventilated seats can be incredibly useful in warmer climates, but they do take up space in the seats. For example, you can’t choose ventilation on M Sport seats due to space, and some seat adjustments are unavailable once you add ventilation. Even so, the ventilated seat option definitely makes a difference if you’re regularly driving in warmer conditions.
4 & 5 Zone Climate Control
The final part of the Climate Comfort Pack is the multi-zone climate control. This allows rear passengers to control the temperate in their part of the car, instead of controlling the whole vehicle from the front. In the X5 and X6 models, this is a 4-zone climate control system, and in the X7 you have a choice of 4 or 5-zone controls, depending on if you have a 3rd-row seat.
The controls allow you to select the desired temperature in each sector of the car, with the controls located on the center console. In the X7 models, your 3rd-row climate control is powered by a separate HVAC system, but for 2nd-row seats, this is controlled through the main system.
How Much Does It Cost?
The cost of the Climate Comfort package depends on the model, but as a rough guide for the US market:
- BMW X5 40i: $1,350
- BMW X5 45e: $1,350
- BMW X5 M50i: $850
- BMW X6 40i: $1,350
- BMW X6 M50i: $850
- BMW X7 40i: $1,600
- BMW X7 M60i: $1,600
Is The Climate Comfort Package Worth It?
Overall, the Climate Comfort Package is a choice totally dependent on where you live. For some owners, you can probably manage with just the heated seat option, but if you’re in colder or warmer regions this pack might be a must-have.
Starting at $850 and rising depending on the features, the Climate Comfort Pack is on the expensive side. With specific features, it’s less expensive than general packages like the Convenience or Premium, but it is still a lot of money for extended control over your cabin.
